Alan Hurcombe

Alan Hurcombe is currently undertaking consulting and trustee work across publishing and media. For the 6 years to June 2024 he was the Chief Operating Officer at Hodder Education (a division of Hachette UK). In this time, he was responsible for commercial and strategic financial support to the division together with operational responsibility for supply chain, production and product management, including design and content development. More recently he has focused on the digital transformation of the business, including new cloud and AI based platforms and modern data analytics.

Prior to Hodder, Alan was Chief Financial Officer at Egmont UK, with oversight of Egmont operations in Germany, Poland and on the Board of Australian joint venture Hardie Grant Egmont. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with EY and joined Scholastic as Financial Controller in 2002. Promoted to CFO within 4 years, Alan went on to lead Scholastic as Group Managing Director for 3 years before taking a number of consulting roles and then joining Egmont in 2013.
